Ministry of Energy and Chinese Company (HDsolar) Sign MoU to Produce Green Hydrogen in Jordan

November 25, 2024 The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today, Monday, with the Regional Director of the Chinese company Hangzhou Huading New Energy Co. Ltd. (HDsolar), Mr. Zhu Xiufeng. The agreement aims to conduct feasibility studies for the development of green hydrogen projects in Jordan.

Speaking about the MoU, Minister Al-Kharabsheh stated that the agreement with the company aims to produce 400,000 tons of green ammonia annually. It outlines the general framework for collaboration to facilitate and enable the company to conduct a preliminary feasibility study for establishing a new green hydrogen project. Based on the initial study results, the ministry will move forward with the company toward the final investment agreement for the project.

From his side, the company’s CEO, Ma Siji, emphasized the importance of this agreement for Jordan, noting that it will enhance investment rates. He added that this agreement is the first of its kind globally.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, engineers responsible for overseeing green hydrogen projects in the ministry, and representatives of the company.

Hangzhou Huading New Energy Co. Ltd. has extensive expertise in developing energy projects using photovoltaic (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. The company has manufactured products for over 1,000 PV projects worldwide.

It is worth noting that the signed MoU is the 14th of its kind for green hydrogen and green ammonia production, aimed at expanding investment opportunities in this sector. The ministry envisions making Jordan a regional and global hub for green hydrogen production and export through previously signed agreements.

To date, eight green hydrogen investors in Jordan have submitted initial feasibility studies for their projects, three of which are in the final stages of preparation. The total investment in green hydrogen projects under study is expected to reach $28 billion by 2030.
