MEMR explores Concentrated Solar Power Technology in Jordan

Amman, May 23, 2024 - As part of the Excellence Month activities organized by the ministry during this May, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held a workshop titled "Concentrated Solar Power Technology in Jordan," presented by Dr. Engineer Mohammed Afana, the General Manager and Head of the Engineering Department at Industrial Thermal Company.

During the workshop, Afana presented the equations, calculations, designs, and algorithms used to develop this technology locally and its applications in the industrial sector, including processes for generating the necessary thermal energy for water heating, thermal oil, industrial steam production, and the efficiency and economic viability of using thermal technology to achieve sustainability.

The workshop included a field visit by ministry staff to the Al-Asalah Food Industries Company in Al-Zarqa, where a detailed explanation was provided about the Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) project. The project has a capacity of 700 kWp.th and is under development, with plans to inaugurate it in September 2024. It marks the company's entry into the concentrated solar power systems as the first specialized company in designing, manufacturing, and implementing CSP projects in Jordan.

It is expected that three local industrial projects will benefit from this technology. Industrial Thermal Company aims to assist the national industry in reducing energy costs, directly enhancing production and competitiveness in global markets, and contributing to development. This aligns with the vision of economic modernization to elevate national industries and enhance their competitiveness.
