November 28, 2024 – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has officially launched the “Promoting Zero-Energy Houses and Buildings” project in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

This pioneering initiative, the first of its kind in Jordan, aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework encompassing legal procedures, financing mechanisms, and incentives to promote the adoption of green homes in the country. Additionally, the project will enhance capacity-building efforts in energy demand management, addressing challenges associated with the increasing use of electric vehicles and the rise of green buildings.

The project aligns with Jordan's strategic energy sector objectives to increase renewable energy contributions and improve energy efficiency, thereby bolstering the nation’s energy security and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable development.

Zero-energy homes and buildings are designed to implement advanced construction practices, efficient design, and modern technologies to minimize energy consumption. They employ renewable energy systems to meet any remaining energy needs, resulting in a net-zero energy balance.

This initiative is implemented in partnership with a technical team comprising representatives from various national entities, including the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Jordanian National Building Council, Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization, National Electric Power Company, Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Local Administration, and Greater Amman Municipality.
