3 July 2026 – The Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply and the German Energy Academy in Jordan, and with the support of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), organized specialized awareness workshops within the national program for capacity building in the field of energy efficiency, targeting employees of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply with the aim of enhancing concepts of rationalizing energy consumption and improving the efficiency of its use in government buildings.
The Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Lina Mbaydeen, emphasized that these workshops come within the ministry's ongoing efforts to promote a culture of energy efficiency in the public sector and build the capacities of employees in government institutions, in line with the national energy strategy and the government's plans aimed at reducing energy consumption and improving its use efficiency.
Mbaydeen added that the national program for capacity building in the field of energy efficiency focuses on bringing about a positive change in daily behaviors related to energy consumption within the work environment, which contributes to achieving sustainable savings and reducing the operational costs of government buildings, stressing the importance of partnership with local and international supporting bodies to implement specialized training and awareness programs.
She indicated that the ministry is proceeding to expand the scope of these programs to include various government institutions, which enhances the exchange of experiences and knowledge and enshrines the concepts of sound energy management, leading to a more efficient and sustainable public sector.
For her part, the Assistant Secretary-General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, Her Excellency Yasmine Khreisat, emphasized the importance of these workshops in raising the level of awareness among employees of the best practices related to the optimal use of energy, pointing out that rationalizing consumption and improving energy efficiency constitute a fundamental pillar in the government's efforts aimed at reducing operational expenses and enhancing sustainability in the public sector.
For his part, the Project Manager of the German Energy Academy in Jordan on behalf of the donor (GIZ), Raphael Wiese, explained that the German Agency for International Cooperation implements this program on behalf of the German government and in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in support of national efforts aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in government institutions.
Wiese pointed out that the program included in its previous stages employees from the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Finance, and today continues its activities at the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply within a series of courses and awareness workshops targeting public sector employees, with the aim of enhancing positive behaviors related to rationalizing energy consumption and improving its use efficiency.
He added that the high cost of energy constitutes an increasing challenge for both the public and private sectors, indicating that government buildings represent an important opportunity to achieve tangible savings in electricity and energy consumption by adopting simple and effective procedures within the work environment, such as turning off lighting and unused devices, adjusting air conditioning and heating systems, and closing windows when needed.
He stressed that the success of energy efficiency efforts depends on the active participation of all workers, noting that each employee can contribute an influential role in reducing consumption and enhancing the culture of responsible energy use through sustainable daily practices.
For his part, Dr. Ayman Al-Batayneh from the German-Jordanian University stressed the importance of preserving national energy resources and enhancing awareness of methods of rationalizing their consumption, affirming that training and awareness programs contribute to raising the efficiency of human cadres and developing their capabilities in the field of energy management and efficiency.
The workshops included interactive sessions that addressed energy efficiency concepts and the best practices followed in government buildings, in addition to reviewing the behavioral and technical procedures that contribute to reducing consumption and achieving sustainable energy savings.
These workshops come as a continuation of the national efforts implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to enhance the efficiency of energy use in the public sector, and build the capacities of workers in government institutions, which contributes to reducing consumption and lowering operational costs and supporting the goals of sustainability and the transition towards more efficient practices in the management of resources and energy.
