Dubai – September 3, 2026 — Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, affirmed that the success of the energy transition depends not only on technology, investment and infrastructure, but also on investing in people, developing skills, and empowering youth and women to actively participate in shaping and leading the future of the sector.

Al-Azzam made the remarks during her participation in the Intersolar Middle East 2026 conference in Dubai, where she highlighted Jordan’s experience in advancing its energy transition. She noted that renewable energy accounted for approximately 26.3 percent of the Kingdom’s total electricity generation by the end of 2025, alongside Jordan’s efforts to expand in energy storage, smart grids and green hydrogen.

Al-Azzam said the next phase of the energy transition will create new demand for technical and digital skills, underscoring the need to strengthen alignment between education and training outcomes and labor-market needs. This, she said, would help ensure that national talent is prepared to seize the opportunities emerging from the sector’s transformation.

She also pointed out that women’s strong presence across Jordan’s education system is not reflected to the same extent in their economic participation. She stressed the need to expand professional and leadership opportunities for women and enable them to play a greater role in promising economic sectors, particularly the energy sector.

Al-Azzam emphasized the importance of building effective partnerships among the government, universities, the private sector and international partners. She affirmed that a just energy transition requires a just transition for the workforce, stressing that young people and women should not merely benefit from the transformation, but should be partners in shaping and leading it.

Al-Azzam’s participation also included a video presentation highlighting the efforts of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, through the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, to extend the benefits of renewable energy and energy efficiency to different segments of society.

The participation reflects Jordan’s drive to advance a more sustainable and inclusive energy transition, based on expanding access to clean energy and energy-efficiency technologies while investing in human capital and strengthening the participation of all segments of society in the transition.
