Al-Kharabsheh: Natural Gas Supply Projects to Industrial Cities Will Help Reduce Energy Costs and Enhance Industrial Competitiveness

Al-Suwaidi: Supporting Energy Projects in Jordan Reflects the Depth of the Strategic Partnership Between the Two Countries

August 26, 2026 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh today signed contracts for the construction of pipelines for two projects to supply the Al-Muwaqqar and Al-Rawdhah Industrial Cities with natural gas, with support and financing from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

The contract for implementing the natural gas supply project to Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City was signed by Bakainam Kafafi, Chief Executive Officer of TAQA Arabia Group, while the contract for implementing the natural gas supply project to Al-Rawdhah Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone was signed by Eng. Walid Lotfi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PETROJET and the authorized signatory on behalf of the consortium.

During the ceremony, Al-Kharabsheh expressed his appreciation to the United Arab Emirates for its continued support, saying: “Today, we are signing two agreements to extend natural gas supplies to Al-Rawdhah Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone and Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City, with generous support from the United Arab Emirates through the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, amounting to $70 million. These projects form part of our strategy to reduce energy costs across all economic sectors, particularly the industrial sector.”

He added that the projects will play a significant role in providing an alternative energy source for various sectors, particularly industry, thereby contributing to lower operating costs, enabling Jordanian industries to compete and access new markets, expanding production, establishing new production lines, creating additional employment opportunities, and contributing to economic development and growth.

For his part, Mohammed Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said that the Fund’s relationship with the Kingdom of Jordan dates back to 1974, noting that during this period the Fund has provided financial support to Jordan totaling AED 9.4 billion.

He added that the projects supported by the Fund in Jordan have demonstrated their strategic and vital role in supporting the national economy, reflecting the strength of the strategic relationship between the two countries at various levels. He noted that the signing of these agreements today reaffirms the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s economic development efforts.

The contracts cover the implementation of two major projects. The first involves supplying Al-Muwaqqar Industrial City with natural gas and has been awarded to the PETROJET–Ahmad Yousef Al-Tarawneh & Partners Consortium. The second involves supplying Al-Rawdhah Industrial City in the Ma’an Development Zone with natural gas and has been awarded to TAQA Arabia Group.

The two projects are being financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development under a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Jordanian Government, represented by the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, to finance a number of development projects in the Kingdom. The projects are intended to support the objectives of the second Executive Program of the Economic Modernization Vision and to develop the energy infrastructure sector in Jordan.

For her part, Bakainam Kafafi, Chief Executive Officer of TAQA Arabia Group, expressed her pride in the Group’s entry into the Jordanian market, which she described as a promising market with a strategically important and vital location.

Kafafi noted that the construction of the natural gas pipeline to Al-Rawdhah Industrial City, extending 14 kilometers, represents a pivotal step and is aligned with the Group’s vision of expanding the scope of its services to meet the energy needs of the industrial sector and provide reliable solutions. She added that the Group looks forward to leveraging its expertise in infrastructure development and making an effective contribution to supporting the industrial sector and promoting sustainable development and growth in the Kingdom.

The two projects are viewed as a strategic step toward enhancing the competitiveness of Jordan’s industrial sector, reducing production costs, and providing factories with a sustainable and cost-effective energy source. This is expected to contribute to improving the investment environment, strengthening the ability of industrial cities to attract investment, and creating additional employment opportunities.
