Ministry of Energy: First Phase of Solar Water Heating System Installation Project Completed at 9 Government Hospitals located in Northern Region

July 29, 2026 – The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, affiliated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, announced on Wednesday the completion of the first phase of a project to install solar water heating systems at the government hospitals in the Northern Region. The project was implemented with support from the Italian government, represented by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security. This follows the completion of the system installation and commissioning at Al-Iman Government Hospital in Ajloun Governorate, the last hospital included in this phase.

The Fund explained that with the completion of the system at Al-Iman Hospital, the first phase of the project, which included nine government hospitals in the northern governorates, has been completed. These hospitals are: Yarmouk Hospital, Princess Raya Hospital, Northern Badia Hospital, Mafraq Government Hospital, Princes Rahma Teaching Hospital for Children, Ramtha Government Hospital, Jerash Government Hospital, the Women's and Maternity Hospital, and Al-Iman Government Hospital. The total storage capacity with 35,000 liters of hot water.

The project was implemented by Noor Solar Energy Company, adhering to the highest approved technical specifications to ensure the efficiency and sustainability of the systems.

As part of monitoring the project's progress, the Executive Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, Rasmi Hamza, accompanied by a technical team and representatives from the Ministry of Health and Al-Iman Hospital administration, conducted a field visit to inspect the system after the completion of installation and commissioning. The visit confirmed the system's readiness to operate according to approved technical specifications, ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and reliability.

During the visit, Hamza explained that the solar water heating system at Al-Iman Hospital constitutes approximately 17.1% of the total storage capacity for the first phase. It is expected to produce about 6,000 liters of hot water daily and achieve annual savings of approximately 7,400 Jordanian dinars, in addition to reduce carbon emissions by about 24 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

He emphasized that the project comes within the framework of the Fund's efforts to enhance energy efficiency in the health sector by providing a sustainable and safe source of hot water. This will contribute to reduce traditional fuel consumption, lower operational costs, and improve the quality of healthcare services provided to citizens. It also embodies the success of the partnership between the Fund and the Italian government in implementing high-quality projects that promote energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the health sector.

According to project indicators, the first phase is expected to save approximately 35,000 liters of hot water daily and generate annual savings of around 43,000 Jordanian dinars, in addition to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 140 tons of carbon dioxide annually.

The project aims to install solar water heating systems in 33 government hospitals in three phases, at a total cost of 3.2 million dinars. Upon completion of the project, it is expected to provide about 217,000 liters of hot water daily, and achieve annual financial savings estimated at about 266,407 Jordanian dinars, in addition to reduce carbon emissions by about 866 tons of carbon dioxide annually, in line with the vision of economic modernization, the energy sector strategy, and the Kingdom’s commitments within the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
