27 July 2026 – MEMR, through its Information Requests Committee, organized a specialized awareness workshop on Monday to promote the implementation of the Guarantee of the Right of Access to Information Law No. 47 of 2007 and its amendments. The workshop targeted faculty members and students at Al al-Bayt University as part of the Committee's ongoing efforts to strengthen the culture of transparency and enhance public access to information related to the energy and mining sectors.

The workshop was submitted by Committee members Sabrin Abu Al-Rub and geologist Ghada Shatnawi, who presented an overview of the legal and legislative framework governing the right of access to information in Jordan. They highlighted the significance of this right in enabling individuals to obtain accurate data and information, while also introducing participants to available and classified data, as well as proactive disclosure practices that support informed decision-making and broader public participation.

The presenters noted that MEMR has established a best practice model in implementing the law and has become a benchmark among government institutions by providing requested information within an average of one working day, despite the law allowing public institutions up to 15 days to respond to information requests.

At the beginning of the workshop, Committee member Yasser Shatnawi delivered a presentation emphasizing the importance of obtaining information from official sources through legal channels. He also stressed the value of consulting multiple information sources to facilitate access to reliable information, while explaining the proper use of such information in academic research, studies, and investment planning.

For her part, Dr. Haifa Al-Dalabih, Director of the University's Center for Consultation, Training and Capacity Building, welcomed the Committee members and underscored the importance of providing information to academics and students, given its essential role in supporting the preparation of research and scientific studies.

Dr. Al-Dalabih added that the University is committed to providing faculty members and students with reliable and specialized information through continuous partnerships and cooperation with government institutions, enabling researchers to access the information they need promptly and within the legal framework.

The workshop was attended by a large number of faculty members and students from various academic disciplines, who enriched the discussions through questions, comments, and inquiries. The event forms part of a series of awareness programs and lectures organized by the Ministry at universities and private sector companies to promote awareness of the right of access to information and its role in reinforcing the principles of institutional openness and good governance.
