June 2026 - The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, participated, today, Thursday, in the fourth conference of the WePOWER Network, the Women in Energy Sector Network in South Asia, which was held in the city of Negombo, Republic of Sri Lanka, during the period 4–5 June 2025, with the participation of an elite of experts, decision-makers, and representatives of international institutions concerned with the energy sector.
During her participation as a speaker in the main session that addressed the development of future competencies and skills and the enhancement of the role of women in the energy sector in light of the energy transition, Al-Azzam reviewed Jordan's experience in expanding renewable energy projects, employing digital technologies and artificial intelligence applications in the electricity sector, alongside the efforts made to enhance the alignment of education outputs and skills development with labor market needs.
Al-Azzam emphasized that the discussions witnessed by the conference shed light on one of the most prominent challenges facing the energy sector globally, represented in preparing and qualifying human cadres capable of keeping pace with the rapid transformations resulting from digitalization, clean technologies, and the rapid changes in energy systems.
She also stressed the importance of expanding opportunities for women's participation in various fields of the energy sector, and enabling them to develop professionally and assume leadership positions that contribute to shaping the future of the sector and enhancing its sustainability, affirming that strengthening the presence of women in the sector constitutes an essential element to support innovation and achieve sustainable development.
Al-Azzam indicated that the transition towards more sustainable, interconnected, and technology-dependent energy systems requires investment in human capital to the same extent required for investment in infrastructure, as it is a fundamental pillar for the success of the energy transition and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
At the conclusion of her participation, Al-Azzam expressed her thanks and appreciation to the World Bank, the ESMAP program, the WePOWER Network, the RENEWMENA Network, and the organizers and participants, appreciating the opportunities provided by the conference for dialogue and the exchange of expertise and best practices, affirming that building qualified, inclusive, and capable human cadres capable of leading the future represents one of the most important factors for the success of the energy transition.
