Al-Kharabsheh: Qualitative Achievements in the Energy and Mining Sectors Supported by Royal Vision and Crown Prince's Follow-up
May 25, 2026 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, affirmed that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan's celebration of Independence Day is a national milestone, a time to reflect on the journey of building and achievement led by the Hashemites over the decades. This journey laid the foundations for the modern state and strengthened Jordan's ability to confront challenges and achieve sustainable development across various sectors, most notably the energy and mineral resources sectors.
Al-Kharabsheh stated that the achievements in the energy sector over the past years are an extension of the lofty royal vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, which focused on enhancing energy security, diversifying energy sources, and increasing reliance on local resources. This is coupled with the continuous follow-up by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II on economic modernization initiatives and empowering vital sectors, contributing to enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and achieving comprehensive development.
He noted that Jordan has made significant strides in developing its energy sector, with the contribution of renewable energy to the electricity mix increasing. Strategic projects have been implemented, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the electricity grid, alongside the expansion of regional electricity interconnection projects, energy storage projects, and the development of the electricity sector's infrastructure. This strengthens Jordan's position as a regional energy center.
Al-Kharabsheh added that the mining sector is also witnessing rapid development through enhanced exploitation of mineral resources, the creation of an attractive investment environment, and efforts to increase the added value of mining industries, particularly in the areas of phosphate, potash, copper, silica, and strategic minerals. This contributes to support economic growth, create job opportunities, and stimulate investment in the governorates.
He explained that the economic modernization vision represents the roadmap for the future of the energy and mining sectors. This vision focuses on energy transition projects, green hydrogen, energy efficiency, and the expansion of high-value mining industries. It also includes developing legislation, stimulating quality investments, building national capacities, and empowering youth in engineering and technical fields related to energy and mining.
Al-Kharabsheh affirmed that the Ministry is continuing to implement strategic projects that enhance sustainability and raise the sector's efficiency, in line with the objectives of the economic modernization vision. This will strengthen Jordan's readiness for the future and solidify its position as a regional model in energy security, sustainability, and mineral resource investment.
Al-Kharabsheh concluded by emphasizing that Independence Day will remain a national occasion from which we draw resolve to continue the journey of achievement and development, under the wise Hashemite leadership, towards a strong, modern, and prosperous Jordan.
