May 12, 2026 - The Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance, the German Energy Academy in Jordan, and with support from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), organized a series of awareness workshops as part of the National Capacity Building Program in Energy Efficiency. These workshops targeted Ministry of Finance employees, aiming to promote energy conservation and improve energy efficiency within the public sector.
During the workshops' opening, Eng. Lina Mobaideen, Director of the Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, emphasized the importance of enhancing institutional and individual awareness of energy efficiency practices. She noted that the Ministry is working on implementing specialized capacity-building programs and conducting energy audits for several ministries and government institutions. The goal is to assess current energy consumption levels and identify opportunities for improvement based on best practices.
She added that improving energy efficiency is a national priority that contributes to reduce energy costs and promote environmental sustainability. She stressed that daily behaviors within the workplace play a direct role in conserving energy and achieving tangible savings in the operational expenses of government institutions.
For his part, Dr. Ali Al-Ghuwairi, Director of the Financial Institute at the Ministry of Finance, affirmed the Ministry's commitment to promote a culture of optimal energy use and embedding sustainability principles within the government work environment. He explained that the results of the energy audit study of the Ministry building showed the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 26% of total consumption through the implementation of cost-effective measures with short payback periods.
Al-Ghuwairi indicated that the Ministry will begin implementing a number of quick-return measures this year, as part of a plan aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
In turn, Eng. Mohammad Jaidi, Director of the German Energy Academy project in Jordan, explained that the Academy, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), is working to support capacity-building projects and programs in the energy and water sectors. He emphasized the importance of involving employees in efforts to rationalize consumption and promote a culture of individual responsibility towards energy use.
Rafael Wiese, Director of the German Energy Academy project in Jordan on behalf of the donor agency (GIZ), also confirmed the Academy's continued support for training and awareness programs related to energy efficiency, noting the importance of these workshops in building the capacities of government personnel and promoting sustainability principles.
For his part, Dr. Ayman Al-Batayneh from the German University stressed the importance of preserving energy sources and following methods of rationalizing their consumption, explaining the role of training programs in raising the efficiency of staff and enhancing their capabilities in this field.
