April 14, 2026 - The Ministry of Labor launched workshops today, Tuesday, as part of the National Energy Efficiency Capacity Building Program. These workshops target ministry employees and aim to promote energy conservation and efficiency within the public sector.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, affirmed the ministry's support for implementing capacity-building programs in energy efficiency. She noted the ministry's support for conducting energy audits for several ministries, including the Ministry of Labor, to assess current energy consumption levels and identify opportunities for improvement based on best practices.
She stated that the current phase represents a significant turning point, focusing on implementing the outcomes of these audits. This requires institutional awareness and practical commitment from all employees. She emphasized that raising awareness among staff is a fundamental pillar in achieving energy efficiency goals.
She added that daily workplace practices directly contribute to reduce energy consumption and improving performance, which positively impacts the efficiency of government spending and enhances the achievement of environmental sustainability goals. She noted that these workshops aim to equip employees with the necessary knowledge and tools and strengthen their role as active partners in the success of the national drive towards rationalizing energy consumption.
Al-Azzam emphasized that improving energy efficiency is a national priority that aligns with the Kingdom's strategic directions and contributes to address economic and environmental challenges and enhance energy security.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Labor, Dr. Abdul Halim Doujan, stressed the importance of adopting energy efficiency concepts in government institutions, indicating that this approach is no longer an option but a national necessity in light of the challenges associated with rising energy costs and their economic and environmental repercussions.
He stated that the Ministry of Labor strives to be a role model in implementing best sustainable practices, both in terms of infrastructure and through promoting employees' daily behaviors.
Dogan noted that the results of the energy audit of the ministry building showed the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 20 percent through a series of measures. These include replacing traditional lighting units with high-efficiency ones, adjusting the temperature settings in air conditioning systems, and implementing operational procedures to improve energy efficiency.
He explained that the ministry will begin implementing the measures with a quick return this year, particularly those with a payback period of no more than two years. The remaining measures will be completed according to a timeline during the following year.
In a related context, Engineer Ghaith Bani Abdul Rahman, representative of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the main partner in the German Energy Academy project in Jordan, emphasized the importance of focusing on building the capacities of workers in the Jordanian energy sector. This will contribute to enhance energy security, training, and employment in this vital sector.
He pointed out that the academy project falls within the framework of cooperation between the German government and the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, in the energy sector.
For his part, Dr. Ayman Al-Batayneh, Director of the Training Program at the German Energy Academy of the German University, emphasized the importance of conserving energy resources and adopting methods to rationalize their consumption. He also pointed to the role of training programs in enhancing the efficiency of personnel and strengthening their capabilities in this field.
The workshops include training sessions, in addition to a professional training program held at the auditorium of the Vocational Training Corporation affiliated with the Ministry of Labor. The aim of these workshops is to enhance the capabilities of technical personnel in the field of energy management and improve the efficiency of its use.
