April 14, 2026 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, Dr. Saleh AL-Kharabsheh, signed a cooperation agreement today with the Private Hospitals Association to launch an energy audit studies program targeting the private healthcare sector. The program aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.

During the signing ceremony, Dr. AL-Kharabsheh stated that this cooperation aligns with the Ministry's plans to rationalize consumption and reduce energy waste. He explained that Jordan's energy intensity index exceeds the global average by up to 25%.

He added that the energy audit studies for private hospitals will be conducted by specialized companies to identify and mitigate sources of waste through the implementation of the study recommendations.

He noted that rationalizing consumption is among the most important projects the Ministry is working on through the implementation of natural gas networks in the governorates of Amman and Zarqa, solar energy projects, and conservation plans. He explained that all these efforts aim to reduce the Kingdom's energy bill, which amounts to approximately 3 billion dinars annually.

For his part, Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, President of the Private Hospitals Association, stated that the energy bill incurred by the private hospital sector poses a significant challenge, as these hospitals operate around the clock, seven days a week.

Al-Hammouri explained that conducting energy audits to reduce waste is essential for the private healthcare sector, as this will have a direct impact on the level of services provided to patients. He also stressed the need to train specialized staff on the importance of continuously implementing conservation measures.

He affirmed that this agreement benefits the Jordanian economy because the private healthcare sector is part of Jordan's health security system, and he emphasized the importance of having renewable energy systems and conservation measures in place at private hospitals in a safe and sustainable manner.

Under the program, energy audits of hospitals will be fully funded (100%) by the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund. The program will also facilitate access to loans for energy efficiency projects through interest rate subsidies and loan guarantees.

This program is part of the Fund's efforts to expand its projects across various vital sectors and implement energy conservation plans prior for transitioning to renewable energy, given its lower cost and faster return on investment.

The Private Hospitals Association will promote the program and reach all private hospitals in the Kingdom, contributing to reduced energy costs and improved quality of healthcare services.
