Al-Kharabsheh: Rural Electrification Program Connects 237 Sites and Homes to Electricity at a Cost of JOD 535,000 in February

11 March 2026 — The Higher Steering Committee of the Rural Electrification Program approved, during a meeting chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, the lists of homes and sites benefiting from electricity connection for the month of February. The approvals covered 237 homes and locations at a total cost of JOD 535,000.

In a press statement, Al-Kharabsheh said that the committee approved a number of projects and sites to be connected to the electricity grid through conventional networks and solar PV systems funded by the Rural Electrification Program. These include residential clusters and economic activities, following recent amendments to the program’s connection criteria.

For his part, Eng. Hisham Al-Momani, Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry, presented details of the decisions, noting that they include:

  • Residential clusters of five homes located outside zoning boundaries, at a total cost of JOD 42,000.
  • Clusters of three homes outside zoning boundaries, at a cost of JOD 36,000.
  • Individual homes outside zoning areas benefiting from existing networks, at a cost of JOD 27,000.

Al-Momani added that the lists also included low-income households within licensed electricity distribution areas at a cost of JOD 6,000, as part of social support efforts.

To support agricultural and livestock production, the program funded poultry, cattle, sheep, and fish farms in poverty pockets outside zoning areas at a cost of JOD 24,000, as well as farms with artesian wells at a cost of JOD 12,000, contributing to food security and self-reliance.

Additionally, JOD 193,000 was allocated to support productive, industrial, and investment projects in poverty pockets and unregulated areas, on the condition that employment opportunities are provided to local residents.

The approved categories also included electricity connections for government entities and agricultural and charitable cooperatives at a cost of JOD 20,000, as well as upgrading the capacity of transformer stations established under the program over the past ten years at a cost of JOD 7,000.

In the field of renewable energy, the committee approved the installation of grid-connected solar PV systems for 168 homes belonging to low-income families and beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund, aiming to reduce electricity bills and improve their economic conditions.
