Paris, December 16, 2025 – The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, participated, representing Jordan in the joint presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), in the opening session of the annual conference of the Task Force on Gas, Emissions Reduction, and Hydrogen, held this Tuesday in the French capital, Paris.
In her speech, Al-Azzam confirmed that natural gas will remain a pivotal element in the coming periods for achieving a balance between energy security, environmental sustainability, and energy cost in the Mediterranean region, stressing the importance of enhancing regional cooperation during the energy transition phase.
She reviewed Jordan's efforts in developing the infrastructure for the Arab Gas Pipeline, and working to connect the gas pipeline coming from the Al-Reeshah field east of the Kingdom to the regional system, which contributes to enhancing supply security and supporting regional integration among the countries of the region.
Al-Azzam indicated that work is underway to enhance the Kingdom's gas system, including the establishment of a permanent onshore regasification unit, along with leasing with an option to purchase a Floating Storage Unit (FSU), while simultaneously affirming Jordan's commitment to continuing to develop renewable energy projects and focus on green hydrogen within its future vision for the energy sector.
At the conclusion of the conference, Al-Azzam delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of translating the discussions' outcomes into practical projects and tangible cooperation, and renewing the Kingdom's commitment, through its participation in the joint presidency of the Union for the Mediterranean, to supporting dialogue and regional cooperation to build a secure and sustainable energy system that serves the countries and peoples of the region.
