A high-level Jordanian delegation, headed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, explored ways to enhance cooperation in the natural gas sector with the Arab Republic of Egypt, during his meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi.
The meeting discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the field of natural gas, serving the interests of both countries and enhancing supply security and energy system efficiency.
Attending the meeting from the Jordanian side were the Secretary-General of the National Electric Power Company, Dr. Sufian Al-Bataineh, the Assistant Secretary-General for Planning and Wholesale Supply, Engineer Ahmad Al-Dhahni, and the Jordanian Deputy Ambassador in Cairo, Dr. Riyad Al-Najjadah.
Attending from the Egyptian side were the Chairman of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), Engineer Mahmoud Abdel Halim, along with the Chairman of GASCO and the Chairman of FAJR.
The discussions covered the possibility of Jordan benefiting from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers available to the Egyptian side, to supply it with gas during peak and emergency periods, pending the completion of the construction of the permanent gas import terminal in the city of Aqaba.
The two sides also discussed using the Sheikh Sabah Port berth in Aqaba for mooring the floating regasification unit, under flexible terms that allow supply only when needed without bearing fixed costs, which contributes to enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
Within the framework of the visit, the Jordanian delegation was briefed during a field tour on the control center of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), where they listened to an explanation of the operation and monitoring mechanisms, and watched a visual presentation highlighting the company's main activities and its role in managing the natural gas system.
This cooperation comes within the framework of joint efforts to enhance regional integration in the energy sector, raise resource use efficiency, and support energy security in the region.
