The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, through its Information Requests Committee, held an awareness workshop at the Hashemite University entitled “The Right to have the Information in the Energy and Mining Sectors.” The workshop was held under the patronage of the University President, Professor Khaled Al-Hayari, who was represented by the Dean of the Prince Hassan bin Talal College, Professor Salman Al-Kofahi.
The workshop was presented by committee member Dr. Khaldoun Abu Humaida, who reviewed the concept of the right to have the information and its importance in enabling individuals to exercise their civil, political, and social rights, and to actively participate in public affairs. He also highlighted its role in building informed opinions and forming positions based on accurate and reliable information.
Dr. Abu Humaida discussed the legislation governing this right, most notably the Right to Information Law No. 47 of 2007 and its amendments, emphasizing the importance of proactive disclosure of available information and data by government institutions.
Dr. Abu Humaida also presented an explanation of the Ministry's data classification policy. The workshop addressed Jordanian government policies and legislation, explaining the mechanism for responding to information requests and the best practices the Ministry follows in enforcing the law.
The meeting witnessed active participation from students and faculty members who raised questions and inquiries about the application of the law and the mechanisms for obtaining information. Members of the Ministry's Information Requests Committee provided answers.
This workshop is part of a series of events and lectures implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources within its plan to raise awareness of the right to access information, promoting transparency and openness in the work of both the public and private sectors.
