Tafila – November 10, 2025
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), through the Information Requests Committee, held an awareness workshop on Monday at Tafila Technical University titled “The Right to Access Information in the Energy and Mining Sectors.” The event was held under the patronage of the University’s Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Khalil Al-Qatawneh, and attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Sameh Al-Saqour, and the Head of the Power and Mechatronics Engineering Department, Dr. Moataz Ghaziwat.
The workshop was presented by Linda Al-Naimat, Head of the Information Requests Committee and the Ministry’s spokesperson. She discussed the concept of the right to access information and its importance in enabling individuals to exercise their civil, political, and social rights, as well as engaging effectively in public affairs management. She also highlighted its role in building informed opinions and forming positions based on accurate and reliable information.
Al-Naimat also addressed the legal frameworks governing this right, foremost of which is the Access to Information Law No. 47 of 2007 and its amendments. She emphasized the importance of proactive disclosure by government institutions regarding available data and information.
Committee member Nour Al-Masri presented the Ministry’s data classification policy in accordance with government regulations and Jordanian legislation. She explained the variety of channels through which publicly accessible information is published in advance without the need for formal requests, and clarified the mechanism for responding to information requests and the best practices adopted by the Ministry in enforcing the law.
At the end of the workshop, students and faculty members engaged actively by raising questions and inquiries regarding the application of the law and the mechanisms for obtaining information, giving the workshop an enriching and productive dialogue-based atmosphere.
The workshop is part of a series of events and lectures conducted by MEMR within its awareness plan on the right to access information, aimed at promoting transparency and openness in the work of both the public and private sectors.
