9 November 2025 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, chaired on Sunday a meeting of the Energy Partnership Council dedicated to discussing mechanisms for leveraging investment opportunities in the renewable energy sector in Iraq, particularly in residential solar energy systems.
The meeting was held pursuant to a proposal submitted by Iraq’s Minister of Trade, Dr. Athir Al-Ghariri, during his discussions with Minister Al-Kharabsheh on the sidelines of the Iraq Investment Forum 2025, which took place in Baghdad last September. The proposal seeks to draw on Jordan’s distinguished expertise in renewable energy to meet the needs of employees of the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, under the ministry’s guarantee and through the State Company for Construction Materials Trading, one of its affiliated entities.
Dr. Al-Kharabsheh affirmed that the initiative holds significant potential for expansion within the Iraqi market to encompass additional ministries, through coordinated efforts and the establishment of a unified operational framework. He emphasized that the initiative represents a strategic opportunity for the Jordanian private sector to contribute to the implementation of solar energy projects in Iraq.
The Minister further noted Iraq’s clear progress toward increasing the share of renewable energy in its national energy mix, reiterating Jordan’s readiness to strengthen cooperation, exchange technical expertise, and advance joint initiatives that serve the mutual interests of both countries.
For her part, the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, reviewed the technical dimensions of the initiative with representatives of the private sector, in preparation for setting out the overarching implementation framework and exploring opportunities for broadening its application.
Representatives of several private companies expressed strong interest in the initiative, underscoring the importance of deepening public-private partnerships and expanding such projects, given the mutual value they generate for participating entities and beneficiaries alike.
