Saturday, 1 November 2025 – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, inspected today, Saturday, the electrical switchgear station in the Al-Rameh area, affiliated with the Electricity Distribution Company in the Southern Shouneh District, in the presence of the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Eng. Ziyad Al-Saaydeh, and the Director General of the Electricity Distribution Company, Eng. Reem Hamdan.

Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of this strategic station in enhancing the reliability of the electrical system in the Southern Shouneh area, noting that it constitutes a fundamental pillar in ensuring continuous electricity supply to vital projects in the region, such as the Zara–Ma’in water pumping project, the expansion of King Hussein Bridge, and the development of the Baptism Site.

During his visit to a number of public and private electricity meter units in the area, the Minister stressed the need to follow up on the needs of residents and ongoing projects, and to ensure the continuity of electricity supply and the quality of the service provided. He also emphasized the importance of taking the necessary measures to prevent tampering with equipment and preserve the sustainability of electricity provision.

For his part, Al-Saaydeh indicated that field inspection tours of the electrical network sites come within the regulatory role of the Commission to ensure the system’s efficiency and continuity of service according to the highest reliability standards.
He affirmed that the Commission attaches utmost importance to strengthening the readiness of electrical infrastructure and monitoring operational performance in the field, ensuring sustainable energy supply for both citizens and vital projects alike. He added that the Commission continues to coordinate with licensed companies to take proactive measures that improve service quality, enhance technical readiness, and provide a safe and stable operational environment that supports economic development across the Kingdom.

Meanwhile, Eng. Reem Hamdan confirmed that the electrical switchgear station in Al-Rameh is considered one of the most vital projects implemented by the company, as it was installed and put into operation at the beginning of 2025 to supply around 3,500 subscribers from the agricultural sectors and vital projects in the area.

Hamdan explained that the cost of constructing the station amounted to nearly two million dinars, noting that it receives electricity from the National Electric Power Company and distributes it through five main feeders in the region. This provides an alternative source of supply for part of the feeders of the Suweimah main station, which supplies the Dead Sea hotel area.

She pointed out that the station consists of 12 medium-voltage (33 kV) cells, in addition to medium-voltage networks extending over 10 kilometers of underground cables and 16 kilometers of overhead networks to connect the station to existing grids. This contributes to improving operational performance, reducing technical losses, and providing an alternative supply source.

The Minister concluded his tour with a visit to the Electricity Distribution Company’s offices in the Southern Shouneh, where he reviewed progress of work and efforts to improve the quality of service provided to subscribers.
