30 October 2025 – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources / Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and the Vice Chairman of the Board of the Jordan Hotels Association, Osama Madanat, signed today, Thursday, a cooperation agreement to implement a comprehensive program for energy efficiency and conservation. The program aims to increase the competitiveness of hotels and the tourism sector by reducing operating costs, including energy costs, and includes conducting energy audit studies for hotel facilities and implementing the recommendations of these studies.

Al-Kharabsheh stressed that the Fund continues its efforts in implementing its future projects in the fields of renewable energy and energy efficiency across all vital sectors, including the residential, tourism, education, industrial, municipal, and hospital sectors, in addition to implementing specialized training programs in renewable energy, contributing to the achievement of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan’s goals in energy and sustainable development.

He pointed out that there is a great opportunity for economic and service institutions in both the public and private sectors to improve energy efficiency, as studies conducted by the Fund indicate that the energy-intensity index in Jordan is significantly high, exceeding the global average by 20–25%. He noted that implementing energy-saving and efficiency measures comes first before installing renewable energy systems, as it is less costly and its investment payback period does not exceed four years.

For his part, the Vice Chairman of the Jordan Hotels Association, Osama Madanat, expressed his satisfaction with signing this agreement, praising this comprehensive program offered by the Fund to support the hotel sector, which will significantly contribute to reducing energy costs for hotels that were affected recently by regional events. He noted that the Association will cooperate with the Fund to reach all hotels and promote this important program in all governorates, as energy audit studies will play a major role in achieving energy savings and reducing energy costs for hotels, which will directly reflect on providing better services for citizens.

Meanwhile, the Fund’s Executive Director, Rasmi Hamzeh, confirmed that this agreement translates the Fund’s vision to expand its programs to include the tourism sector, being one of the main pillars of the national economy. He explained that the Fund will cover 100% of the cost of the energy audit studies, in addition to supporting interest rates and guaranteeing loans for implementing the recommendations and outputs of the study.

Hamzeh also referred to the success of previous phases implemented in Petra and Aqaba, where the desired results were achieved, and energy bill savings ranged between 40–60%, contributing to increased competitiveness of these hotels and reduced energy costs.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, and the Fund’s team, and from the Association, Dr. Moataz Saoud, Secretary-General of the Hotels Association, and Board Member Hussein Hilalat.
