Minister of Energy Inspects 3D Seismic Survey Operations in East Al-Jafr

October 27, 2025 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, on Monday inspected the progress of the 3D seismic survey project in the East Al-Jafr area, one of the key strategic projects in the energy sector.

During his field visit, Dr. Al-Kharabsheh was briefed on the implementation stages and progress rates of the project, which covers an area of 4,285 square kilometers—making it the largest 3D seismic survey project carried out in the region to date. The initiative comes as part of the Ministry’s efforts to achieve the objectives of the Economic Modernization Vision, which aims to maximize the utilization of local resources and strengthen energy security.

The Minister reviewed the current completion rate of 80%, with the project expected to be finalized within the next six weeks.

Accompanying the Minister on the visit was Bahjat Al-Adwan, Director of Petroleum and Oil Shale at the Ministry, who emphasized the importance of the project in providing around 400 job opportunities. He also highlighted that the Ministry seeks, through this and other ongoing projects, to increase reliance on domestic energy sources.

It is worth noting that the project is being implemented by the Arabian Geophysical and Surveying Company (ARGAS), which has over 60 years of international experience in seismic survey projects. ARGAS is one of the companies under the Saudi TAQA Group, owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).
