The Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Directorate carry out the following tasks :

Monitor, follow up, organize and implement renewable energy and energy efficiency affairs nationally in accordance with The Renewable Energy and Energy Rationalization Law in force, the regulations and instructions issued pursuant to it, and the national plans in the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency.
Follow up on developments in renewable energy and energy efficiency affairs at the global level.
Contributing to encouraging initiatives and programs that lead to the development and exploitation of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency at the national level.
Contributing to the formulation and development of comprehensive national plans and programs for exploiting renewable energy resources to enhance their future contribution to the Kingdom’s overall energy mix and energy efficiency plans and programs.
Preparing the necessary studies to develop policies and general rules related to the exploitation of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency, developing the necessary plans and programs to implement these policies and following up on their implementation with the concerned stakeholders.
Follow up on joint activities and cooperation programs with the stakeholders related to the department’s field of work.
Participating and supervising all stages of preparing tendering documents and/or instructions for preparing direct proposals, in cooperation with the relevant departments within the Ministry and concerned parties outside the Ministry, related to consultation work, economic feasibility studies, and tenders of renewable energy projects for the purposes of commercial electricity generation and other uses.
Follow up on the implementation of renewable energy projects and energy efficiency projects by the private sector or owned by the government.
Follow up on the application of incentives and exemptions related to renewable energy and rationalization and improvement of energy efficiency in accordance with regulatory legislations.
