The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources organized a specialized training workshop titled “Designing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)”, delivered by Eng. Basma Al-Shatti, Head of the Ministry’s Strategic Planning Division. The workshop aimed to promote knowledge sharing and strengthen employees’ capabilities in institutional performance management and measurement.

The workshop covered the concept of Key Performance Indicators and their importance in translating strategic objectives into measurable results, as well as different levels and types of performance indicators and the characteristics of effective indicators. It also addressed the steps involved in designing KPIs and developing KPI profiles, setting baselines and targets, identifying data sources, and analyzing results.

The workshop included practical exercises focusing on linking strategy with objectives, performance indicators, targets and data; analyzing performance gaps and identifying corrective actions; and using performance dashboards to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

The practical exercises featured examples related to the Ministry’s work in the energy and mineral resources sectors, contributing to a shared understanding of performance measurement concepts and practices, supporting the development of the institutional performance framework, and strengthening its alignment with the Ministry’s strategic priorities and objectives.

The workshop is part of a series of internal knowledge-transfer workshops conducted by the Ministry’s team of experts under the Tacit Knowledge Transfer Project, implemented by the Ministry’s Knowledge Management and Innovation Division. The initiative seeks to promote knowledge sharing, build institutional capacities, support the Ministry’s efforts to achieve its strategic objectives, and enhance institutional performance efficiency.
