The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held a specialized awareness workshop on Monday for employees of the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) titled “The Right to Access Information in the Energy and Mining Sectors.” The workshop forms part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to promote a culture of transparency and strengthen the principles of access to information across institutions within the sector.
During the workshop, members of the Ministry’s Information Requests Committee, Noor Al-Masri and Engineer Ghada Shtanawi, reviewed the legal framework governing the right to access information and highlighted the importance of this right in enabling individuals to obtain accurate data and information, thereby enhancing public participation and supporting informed decision-making.
Linda Al-Naimat, Director of the Ministry’s Communication and Media Directorate and Information Coordinator, emphasized the importance of developing proactive disclosure mechanisms and making information available through approved channels in line with applicable legislation, while further enhancing transparency in institutional operations.
Al-Naimat also stressed the need to appoint information coordinators within companies and institutions operating in the sector and to intensify employee training and awareness programs. Such measures, she noted, would ensure the effective implementation of the Law on Guaranteeing the Right of Access to Information and strengthen cooperation with sector partners in responding to information requests efficiently and effectively.
The workshop is part of a series of awareness programs and lectures organized by the Ministry to promote understanding of the right to access information and its role in advancing institutional openness and good governance across both the public and private sectors.
