October 21, 2025 — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Al Kharabsheh inaugurated today, Tuesday, the Energy Sector Roundtable in Jordan, held in cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The event was attended by the Ministry’s Secretary-General Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, the National Electric Power Company’s Director-General Eng. Sufyan Al-Bataineh, and a distinguished group of local and international experts.

Al Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of these discussions in supporting efforts to develop the electricity sector amid the challenges facing the planning process. He noted that the workshop was organized at the Ministry’s request to assist technical teams in identifying the most feasible options within the future energy sector plan.

The Minister explained that the Ministry aims to study technical and financial alternatives across various energy fields — including solar, wind, hydropower, and gas-fired generation — to reach realistic and applicable solutions. He pointed out that the constant fluctuation in prices and rapid technological advancements make planning a challenge that requires careful feasibility analysis before adopting any option.

Al Kharabsheh also expressed his appreciation to the EBRD for its continued support, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening joint cooperation to enhance the sector’s efficiency and sustainability.

For her part, Gretchen Perry, EBRD’s Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, affirmed the Bank’s commitment to sharing its expertise with Jordan, commending the partnership and mutual trust with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. She confirmed the Bank’s continued cooperation in areas of investment and policy dialogue within the sector.

Perry added that the EBRD is working to develop a decarbonization pathway for Jordan’s energy sector to align national and international efforts, addressing topics such as balancing the electricity grid amid increasing renewable energy generation, and the role of gas and clean energy in supporting the transition toward a low-carbon power system.

The roundtable was attended by representatives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the National Electric Power Company, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, and electricity distribution companies
