May 9, 2024 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources participated in the Third International Oil Shale Conference, held at Al-Balqa Applied University, over the course of two days, May 7-8. Geologist Ezz al-Din Nasr from the Natural Resources Projects Directorate in the Ministry gave a lecture entitled “Bulk Geochemistry and Organic Petrography of Oil Shales from Atrarat Boreholes,” in which he talked about the geochemical analysis and petrographic study of the oil shale from Attarat Ghadran, central Jordan. Nasr stated that during this study, 31 samples of oil shale were taken from 3 drilled wells for the purpose of evaluating the properties of organic chemistry using “Rock-Eval and Leco” analysis methods, in addition to studying organic facies. For his part, Director of the Natural Resources Projects Directorate in the Ministry, Geologist Bahjat Al-Adwan, stressed the importance of holding conferences specialized in exploiting the Kingdom’s wealth. The conference participants focused on the uses of “oil shale ash” in construction, in addition to the presence of rare earth minerals within the oil shale materials or the ash resulting from it, as many researches are conducted on the extent of benefiting from the quantities of oil shale available in Jordan. The conference witnessed various presentations of research papers by a number of researchers from the countries of Estonia, Germany, and Morocco, and representatives from entities and companies supporting the conference and university students. It is noteworthy that the Ministry has launched, since the beginning of this year, the electronic platform for investment opportunities for mineral resources, petroleum and oil shale invest.memr.gov.jo, which is characterized by interconnection with the relevant government agencies, where investors can currently apply for investment electronically.
