September 3, 2024 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh and Regional Director of CTGI Renewable Energy Partners Dr. Mohammad Abu Attia signed a memorandum of understanding today, Tuesday, to prepare feasibility studies for developing green hydrogen projects in Jordan

Minister Kharabsheh said in a press statement following the signing that the goal of the memorandum is to generate 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually, noting that the memorandum defines the general framework for cooperation to facilitate the company and enable it to conduct a preliminary feasibility study to establish a new green hydrogen project.

Kharabsheh confirmed that after the company completes the initial studies for the project and in light of the results, the ministry will continue with it until the final investment agreement for the project is reached.

Al-Kharabsheh added, "Today, we renew our partnership with the private sector by signing the 13th agreement in the field of green hydrogen and green ammonia production to expand investment frameworks in this field," hoping to achieve the ministry's vision and ambitions to transform Jordan into a regional and global center for the production and export of hydrogen through the memoranda signed in the field.

Al-Kharabsheh stressed the ministry’s  and the sector's commitment to facilitating the task of investing in the hydrogen industry, describing it as a valuable opportunity for Jordan and investors alike, as it is a promising sector in European countries.

Al-Kharabsheh pointed out that the memorandum comes within the efforts of the Jordanian government to enhance Jordan's role as a regional center for green energy production by taking advantage of the abundance of renewable energy sources and Jordan's central location in the Middle East and Africa region, which is a step within the ministry's priorities and one of the main activities within the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2033), including investing in green hydrogen production projects in Jordan, which fall under the initiatives of the transition towards the use of clean energy.

For his part, Attia stressed Jordan's distinguished role in providing facilities to "CTGI Renewable Energy Partners Jordan" to enable it to provide power generation services in Jordan.

The signing ceremony was attended by the Director of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Directorate and engineers concerned with following up on the green hydrogen file at the Ministry, and a specialized delegation from the company.

It is worth noting that China Three Gorges Asia-Africa Green Energy Investment Limited (CTGAAL), which was established in Hong Kong in August 2022, is a regional subsidiary of CTGI Renewable Energy Partners.
