Energy and the Arab National Mining Company "sign a memorandum of understanding to explore for copper in the Fifa Valley south of the Dead Sea

January 20 - 2025 The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab National Mining and Transformation Industries Company, His Excellency Hamdi Al-Tabbaa, signed a memorandum of understanding to explore for copper ores in the Fifa Valley area south of the Dead Sea, over an area estimated at about 28.1 square kilometers, for a period of one year.

Al-Kharabsheh stated that the agreement comes within the framework of strengthening the Jordanian mining sector, in accordance with the royal vision for economic modernization that aims to exploit natural resources and support the national economy, stressing that this stage of the memorandum is preparatory to move to executive agreements that include mining operations and mineral extraction.

Al-Kharabsheh appreciated the initiative of the company, which was established by the efforts of local partners and businessmen, hoping that it will be one of the leading companies in the field of mining in the future.

Al-Kharabsheh added that the ministry has signed many Memoranda of Understanding for exploration of various ores, stressing that the year 2025 will witness the signing of a set of executive agreements.

In turn, Al-Tabbaa pointed out that the Arab National Mining Company is a translation of the royal vision for the Jordanian mining sector, noting that the memorandum is considered a launch for a public shareholding company that gives Jordanian citizens priority in contributing to it.

Regarding the objective of the memorandum, Director of Natural Resources Studies at the Ministry, Hisham Al-Zyood, said that it seeks to implement an exploration work program that includes mining exploration activities, including drilling wells and extracting samples to evaluate copper ore in the region, and conducting an initial economic feasibility study in an area estimated at 28 square kilometers.

Al-Zyood indicated that the initial studies in the region showed promising concentrations of copper ores reaching 1.36% in surface samples, which enhances the opportunities for developing the project and achieving sustainable development.
