December 18, 2024 The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, oversaw today the signing of agreements for supplying and connecting natural gas to the compressed natural gas (CNG) Mother Station project in the Al-Hashimiyah area. The agreements were signed between the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company, the Advanced Central Gas Company "ProGas," Tanmia Gas Company, and Classic Fashion, a ready-made garment manufacturing company.
The agreements were signed by Eng. Fouad Rashed, CEO of the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company; Fadi Al-Shobaki, CEO of ProGas; and Mohammed Al-Tarabili, CEO of Tanmia Gas Company.
A separate agreement was signed between ProGas and Classic Fashion for the transportation and distribution of natural gas to the factory.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Minister Al-Kharabsheh highlighted that these agreements are part of Jordan’s national project to deliver natural gas to various regions and industrial clusters across the Kingdom. The initiative aims to reduce energy costs for the industrial sector, attract investments, create job opportunities, and support the national economy.
Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that the ministry is working on extending natural gas supply to several key industrial zones, including the Roudah Industrial Estate in Ma’an, the Muwaqqar Industrial Zone, and the Mafraq Development Area.
He noted that providing natural gas to industrial cities reduces energy costs by approximately 60%, alleviating the financial burden on economic sectors. This enables industries to compete in new markets, enhance productivity, expand operations, and create new job opportunities.
Eng. Fouad Rashed, CEO of Fajr, affirmed that utilizing natural gas in industries significantly contributes to job creation and attracts more investments to Jordan. He described natural gas as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective energy source, which allows factories to expand production lines and compete in global markets.
ProGas CEO Fadi Al-Shobaki added that this agreement is the first step toward future agreements aimed at reducing costs for factories and boosting growth rates.
The agreements aim to establish a connection to the natural gas measurement and reduction station owned by the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company in Al-Hashimiyah, Zarqa. They also aim to supply and operate the CNG Mother Station that ProGas will develop to transport and distribute compressed natural gas to factories located far from existing gas networks. The economic and competitive advantages of natural gas include direct savings of 30%-60%, depending on the fuel type replaced.
This project aligns with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ efforts to maximize the use of natural gas as an economical and eco-friendly fuel across various sectors, particularly the industrial sector. It aims to alleviate operational costs, enhance competitiveness in regional and global markets, and reduce carbon emissions, thereby benefiting the national economy.
The project will supply the CNG Mother Station with a production capacity of up to 160,000 cubic meters per day in its first phase. This will allow specialized transport vehicles to deliver natural gas to factories, including Classic Fashion’s facilities in Mafraq Industrial City.
The project will utilize state-of-the-art technologies and global standards, including advanced compressors, fast-fill dispensers, and a SCADA system for remote monitoring and control. This ensures efficiency at the Mother Station, transport vehicles, and Daughter Stations located at factory sites.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Energy and the Jordanian-Egyptian Fajr Company supports future plans to develop and expand natural gas supply projects for Jordan’s industrial sector.
These agreements with ProGas represent the first of their kind in Jordan, enabling the company to establish and operate compressed natural gas facilities and distribute it via specialized transport vehicles. This initiative leverages the program offered by Tanmia Gas Company in cooperation with Fajr to provide innovative, economical solutions for natural gas use across the Kingdom.
