October 24, 2024 - The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, participated today, Thursday, at the "Women in the Energy Sector: Celebrating Successes and Exploring Available Opportunities" event within the Energy Sector Support Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Al-Azzam pointed out during her participation at the dialogue session entitled "Exploring the Future of Integration in the Energy Sector" that there are promising opportunities to provide jobs for both genders during the energy transition phase that the ministry is working to achieve according to the economic modernization vision in an effort to reach cleaner and more sustainable energy.
Al-Azzam explained that social integration between both women and men is guaranteed by the Jordanian constitution and laws, and that involving women in the energy sector in its various fields is an important and essential matter, not only in the technical aspects but also in the legal, administrative, and technical aspects.
Al-Azzam explained that there are many promising opportunities for women in the field of green hydrogen industry, in which Jordan seeks to be a pioneer at the regional level, by signing many agreements and concluding partnerships, stressing that work is now underway to provide the infrastructure and build the necessary paths for this framework, which enables women to manage green hydrogen projects.
Al-Azzam spoke about the promising opportunities for women in the fields of transportation, electrical interconnection, chemical industries, electric vehicles, networks, and others.
For her part, Rasha Marar from the Planning and Development Directorate at the Ministry of Energy presented her experience at the "Women in Leadership Positions" program, noting that she acquired several skills in communication, building relationships, and the ability to face difficulties.
Marar called for the importance of cooperation and solidarity to overcome the difficulties and challenges facing women in their work in the energy sector so that they become leaders and pioneers, noting that leadership is not only linked to positions.
It is worth noting that the Ministry has enrolled 23 female employees in a “training program to develop female leaders in the energy sector,” which comes within the framework of the Energy Sector Support Project funded by the United States Agency for International Development.
