July 2, 2025 — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, headed by Minister Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, concluded today, Wednesday, a series of joint meetings with Syrian Minister of Energy Eng. Mohammad Al-Bashir and his accompanying delegation. The meetings, which began this morning in the capital, Amman, aimed to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
The discussions resulted in an agreement between the two sides to establish specialized technical teams tasked with organizing reciprocal site visits to assess the current situation in Syria in the fields of electricity, oil, natural gas, and renewable energy, in preparation for meeting Syria’s sectoral needs.
The meetings, which were attended by official bodies and Jordanian private sector companies, included a series of focused sessions with the Syrian delegation. These meetings centered on enhancing cooperation in electricity distribution, renewable energy, and the oil and gas sectors.
During a session with electricity distribution companies and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), the Jordanian side presented its experience in regulating and privatizing the electricity distribution sector. Discussions also addressed potential areas of technical support, particularly in light of significant investment opportunities available in Syria.
In a separate roundtable, the Syrian delegation met with Jordanian private companies operating in renewable energy projects to explore investment and cooperation opportunities. The session also addressed the legal and regulatory frameworks for investment in Syria’s renewable energy sector, with Jordanian companies expressing readiness to invest and participate actively.
Representatives from Jordan’s industrial sector also shared their experience in manufacturing components for renewable energy projects and expressed their full readiness to operate in the Syrian market.
In a dedicated session focused on oil and petroleum products, the Syrian delegation met with representatives from the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, petroleum marketing firms, and the Jordan Oil Logistics Company. Discussions highlighted the major challenges facing Syria in securing petroleum products and the urgent need to rehabilitate oil refineries.
Jordanian companies presented cooperation opportunities to support Syria’s petroleum sector, especially regarding the supply of household gas, the rehabilitation of fuel stations across Syrian territories, and enhancing storage capacity.
Earlier in the day, Minister Al-Kharabsheh had emphasized, during a joint press briefing with his Syrian counterpart, the importance of advancing bilateral relations in the energy and water sectors to broader and more productive levels, in a way that serves the shared interests of both countries.
