July 14, 2025 – Engineer Amani Al-Azzam, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and a member of the High Steering Committee of the RENEWMENA Network, participated today, Monday, in a dialogue session organized by Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST) under the title: "Towards a Sustainable Future: Promoting Innovation and Exchange of Expertise in Various Energy Fields," under the patronage of Dr. Muna Abu Dalu, representing the university president, Dr. Khaled Al-Salem.

During the first panel session titled “Graduates of JUST in Leadership Positions in the Energy Sector: Success Stories and Visions to Strengthen the Role of Women,” Al-Azzam stated that JUST is one of the leading Jordanian universities contributing significantly to supplying the local and global markets with highly qualified professionals, particularly in engineering disciplines.

She pointed out the increasing percentage of women in leadership roles in the energy sector and emphasized the need to further enhance women's participation in administrative and leadership positions, especially since Jordanian women have proven their competence in many fields.

Al-Azzam encouraged female engineers working across various sectors to familiarize themselves with labor laws that safeguard women’s rights, noting that Jordanian law provides full protection for working women. She also shared her personal journey and the challenges she faced throughout her educational and professional career.

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at JUST, Dr. Duraid Dalalah, welcomed the participants from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and praised the active role of Jordanian women in the energy sector and the achievements made over the past years.

Dr. Majd Al-Hawari, Commissioner of Nuclear Scientific Research at the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, emphasized that the challenges facing female engineers in the energy sector today are significantly different from those of the past, particularly with the rise of technical complexities and the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.

Al-Hawari praised the outstanding role women play in the energy sector, sharing his experience working with distinguished female engineers at the commission who have demonstrated great capability and competence.

Rasha Abu Marar, the liaison officer for the RENEW MENA Jordan Chapter at the ministry, presented an overview of the project’s activities and programs funded by the World Bank. She highlighted the importance of cooperation with public and private sector institutions to forge partnerships that advance the sector and promote women's participation.

During the second panel discussion, participants addressed ways to enhance women’s roles in the energy sector, including available opportunities and the challenges of integrating gender perspectives within energy-related fields.

The session included participation from several JUST graduates now holding leadership positions across the sector. They shared their professional experiences and inspiring success stories.

At the end of the event, JUST honored Engineer Amani Al-Azzam for her impactful leadership in the energy sector, along with a number of distinguished female graduates holding key positions in the field.

The event concluded with a field tour of renewable energy projects implemented at the university, as well as the university’s medical waste incineration project.
