March 19, 2025 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, chaired a meeting today, Wednesday, bringing together representatives from institutions and companies in the electricity sector. The meeting aimed to enhance partnerships among institutions to develop the sector, improve its efficiency, address challenges, and facilitate service procedures for citizens.
The meeting discussed procedures and mechanisms to address the challenges faced by companies due to the relationship between property owners and tenants and the financial obligations in the residential energy sector. It also addressed the regulation of the electric vehicle charging sector and the technical requirements needed to maximize the use of the existing charging station infrastructure in the Kingdom, with the goal of making a qualitative leap and expanding the sector's horizons.
AlKharabsheh directed representatives of institutions and companies in the sector to develop a vision for a unified platform that would regulate the relationship between electricity service providers, other service institutions in the Kingdom, and citizens. This platform is to be linked with the electricity subsidy platform managed by the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) to facilitate the exchange of information between service providers and to document and register rental contracts to help address challenges related to transferring meters between property owners and tenants.
Additionally, AlKharabsheh instructed the formation of a technical team to study the terms of reference for a web business model to regulate the electric vehicle charging sector and ensure optimal utilization of the sector's infrastructure, benefiting citizens and charging station owners while aligning with the Economic Modernization Vision.
Companies representatives affirmed that the smart meter project contributes to organizing the proposed platform’s operations. They noted that companies are conducting settlement processes between citizens and electricity providers to ensure payments are made in installments based on specific percentages of outstanding balances, which helps recover old dues and rectify financial obligations.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, Engineer Ziad Al-Saaydeh, the Director General of the Electricity Distribution Company, Engineer Reem Hamdan, the Director General of the Jordanian Electric Power Company, Engineer Hassan Abdullah, and the Director General of Irbid District Electricity Company, Engineer Bashar Al-Tamimi.
