22 October 2025 - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and the Director General of the National Electrical Factory, Munir Salman Al-Ali, signed an agreement on Wednesday to replace traditional lighting units with 27,728 energy-efficient "LED" lighting units in the streets of municipalities in the governorates of Jerash, Ajloun, and Mafraq, in its second phase.

On the sidelines of the signing, Al-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of this project in improving the level of services provided by municipalities regarding street lighting, in addition to the economic impact on municipal budgets.

He added that the project is one of the largest energy efficiency improvement projects and significantly contributes to reducing carbon emissions and preserving the climate.

For his part, the Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate, Engineer Hisham Al-Mumani, stated that the total cost of the project is 4 million Jordanian dinars, noting that implementation will begin at the end of next December for a period of one year, with a maintenance warranty for 7 years.

Al-Mumani added that the importance of this project lies in providing excellent lighting for municipal streets, in addition to reducing electricity bills and carbon emissions, and contributing to the transition towards a smart city, as the units are equipped with a smart-ready system that enables remote control of lighting.

The first phase of the project was completed at the end of last year, 2024, where 105,000 energy-efficient lighting units were installed in the streets of municipalities in the governorates of Mafraq, Jerash, and Ajloun, at a total cost of 16 million Jordanian dinars.
