September 13, 2025 – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, today inaugurated a new substation in Downtown Amman and an advanced customer service center in the Russifah District of Zarqa Governorate, both operated by the Jordanian Electric Power Company (JEPCO). He was accompanied by Eng. Ziyad Al-Sa’aydeh, Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission, and Eng. Hassan Abdullah, General Manager of JEPCO.

This achievement comes as part of joint efforts to strengthen the readiness of the national electricity grid, keep pace with rising energy demand, and expand communication channels with customers to ensure more efficient and reliable services.

Launched by JEPCO at the beginning of 2024, the projects include the construction of 19 main substations to serve the four central governorates (Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, and Balqa), with a total investment of approximately 80 million Jordanian dinars, expected to be completed by the end of 2026. These projects aim to reduce technical losses, improve grid efficiency, and provide additional capacity to meet growing demand from air conditioning, heating systems, and electric vehicles.

Minister Al-Kharabsheh emphasized that inaugurating such strategic projects reflects a collaborative approach among sector stakeholders and demonstrates the commitment to meeting citizens’ needs quickly and efficiently. He noted that this will safeguard the stability of the national electricity system and strengthen energy security.

For his part, Eng. Al-Sa’aydeh stressed that the Commission continuously monitors the implementation of operational and technical plans across the sector, ensuring integration with companies to maintain supply reliability, enhance service quality, and provide immediate responses to challenges in electricity loads.

Eng Hassan Abdullah underlined that JEPCO is pressing ahead with its strategic plan to expand existing substations, build new ones, modernize the network, and improve operational efficiency, while also providing advanced service centers to strengthen customer communication and meet the steadily increasing demand.

The tour also included an inspection of the newly completed Al-Maqarr Substation in Downtown Amman, where attendees reviewed its facilities and technical components, and learned about its key role in reinforcing grid reliability and improving service quality in the capital and surrounding areas.

The visit was attended by several directors and specialists from both the Commission and the company, underscoring a practical commitment to partnership, integration, citizen service, and the sustainability of energy security.
