June 23, 2025 – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) held an awareness lecture on Monday titled “Social Media Platforms and Their Impact on Children's Mental Health and Behavior”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Suaad Gheith, Professor of Psychological and Educational Counseling at the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Hashemite University, as part of the “Visitor of the Month” program organized by the Ministry’s Knowledge and Innovation Management Department.

Dr. Gheith shed light on the psychological and behavioral effects of children’s intensive use of social media platforms, highlighting issues such as isolation, anxiety, and low self-esteem. She also emphasized the platforms’ role in shaping behavioral patterns that can sometimes be negative.

She stressed the importance of balance in using these platforms and the need for close parental supervision and guidance. Dr. Gheith noted that building a positive relationship between parents and children is a key factor in protecting children from the potential negative impacts of social media use.
