January 5, 2025 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources held a specialized course entitled "Geophysical Methods in Oil and Gas Exploration" for graduate students at Prince Hussein Bin Talal College of Natural Resources and Environment at Hashemite University.
The course was presented by the Head of the Central Information Unit, Dr. Khaldoun Abu Hamideh, who discussed the stages of exploration for potential oil reservoirs, starting from field operations, through data processing, and ending with conducting interpretations and determining the structures that are likely to contain oil and gas.
Abu Hamideh presented the methods of measurements inside wells and their importance in determining the physical properties of the penetrated layers and how to determine the areas bearing oil and gas in the exploration area.
The course, which was held over two weeks, aims to qualify participants to enter an international competition in the field of specialization. The course highlighted the role of geological sciences in the field of petroleum and the use of geophysical methods such as gravity, magnetism and seismic reflection in prospecting for potential oil reservoirs. It also embodies the ministry’s keenness on continuous cooperation with partners from civil society institutions and academic institutions in transferring knowledge and expertise related to the specialty.
