July 30, 2025 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, through its Information Requests Committee, held an awareness workshop on Wednesday on the "Right to Access Information" related to the energy and mining sector at the German Jordanian University.
The workshop was presented by committee member and geologist Dr. Khaldoun Abu Hamida, Head of the Petroleum and Oil Shale Archives Department at the Ministry. He explained the concept of the right to access information, its importance, and its role in empowering individuals to exercise their civil, political, and social rights. He also explained the importance of participating in the management of public affairs, forming sound opinions, and shaping positions based on accurate information.
Abu Hamida addressed the laws regulating the right to access information, including the Right to Access Information Law No. 47 of 2007 and its amendments. He also highlighted the importance of proactive disclosure by government institutions of the information and data they provide, and the procedures for submitting information requests.
He discussed the Ministry's data classification policy, in accordance with government guidelines, noting that the Ministry has channels that disseminate information "proactively" and can be used without an official request.
During the workshop, faculty and students inquired about energy and mining issues and the information available at the Ministry. The committee responded to their inquiries, explaining the procedures for submitting information requests and the mechanism for responding to them.
The workshop is part of a series of lectures organized by the Ministry as part of its commitment to implement the awareness plan on the right to access information.
