May 11, 2025 – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) participated in the international workshop titled “Seminar of Small Hydropower Standards for Belt and Road Countries”, organized by the Chinese government in cooperation with the Hydropower Regional Center (HRC) in Hangzhou, China.
The Ministry was represented by Engineer Ziyad Hamoudeh and Engineer Suhaib Al-Saleh, alongside participants from 15 countries. Engineer Ziyad Hamoudeh was selected as a representative of the participating delegations and served as a keynote speaker at the program’s opening ceremony, attended by the Director-General of the HRC.
In his speech, Hamoudeh emphasized the importance of hydropower projects in electricity generation and storage, highlighting their role in achieving sustainable development and adapting to the impacts of climate change. He stressed the need for precise standards to ensure efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.
He also noted the significance of the three-week program and expressed hope to gain insights into the Chinese experience and best practices in hydropower development.
The program includes various key topics such as design standards, technical and economic feasibility, and the latest technologies in the field, in addition to field visits to several operational hydropower stations across China
