The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company UEG to study the feasibility of green hydrogen.

September 14, 2025 - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company UEG Green Hydrogen Development Holding Limited on Sunday to conduct a feasibility study for establishing a green hydrogen production project in Jordan at a cost of $1.155 million.

The memorandum was signed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh AL-Kharabsheh, and on behalf of the Chinese company, Mr. Lei Guimin, Vice President of United Energy Group Limited.

During the signing, AL-Kharabsheh emphasized the importance of this step in supporting the Kingdom's efforts to transition to clean energy. He noted that the ministry has identified the target area for conducting technical studies, expressing the ministry's willingness to cooperate with the company in other fields, most notably gas and oil.

AL-Kharabsheh explained that the memorandum is an important step towards enhancing the investment environment for green hydrogen projects, emphasizing the ministry's commitment to facilitating the implementation of preliminary studies for the project on the ground to ensure economic and technical feasibility and enhance the role of the private sector in this promising field.

For his part, Mr. Lei Guimin expressed his gratitude to the Ministry for its confidence, noting that the company has been economically active in the Republic of Iraq for two years, reflecting its regional expertise and readiness to operate in the Jordanian market.

The study aims to evaluate the feasibility of implementing a project to produce 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for export purposes, at a cost of $1.155 Million, using desalinated seawater and renewable energy generated from the best sites in Jordan, at the lowest possible cost.

The study will also determine the scope of the required land and the basic technical phases of the project.
