
June 3, 2024 - The representative of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources participated, today, Monday, in the visit of the ministerial team formed by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh, to Karak Governorate, to review what has been accomplished in government projects during the past (25) years, within the framework of the Kingdom’s celebrations. On the silver jubilee of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s accession to the throne.
The completed projects in the energy and mineral wealth sector in Karak Governorate, in the field of natural gas, were the implementation of the “Natural Gas Pipeline from Aqaba to the North of the Kingdom and its Expansion (the pipeline passes through Karak Governorate)” project, which began in 2008 and is still ongoing, as the project had an impact in providing... The cost of electrical energy and basic energy requirements necessary for economic development, improving the degree of secure energy supply in the Kingdom, and supplying national industries with natural gas as an energy generator, which would reduce the cost of production and contribute to raising their ability to compete, in addition to providing additional sources of natural gas to meet the needs of the sector. Electricity, industries and distribution in cities, and providing job opportunities for the Jordanian workforce.
In the field of electricity, the “Second Private Generation of Electricity IPP2” project was implemented, which began in the year 2011 and is still ongoing. The project is considered to have an impact in increasing the generating capacities of electrical energy to meet the energy needs in all areas of Karak Governorate, and the rest of the governorates of the Kingdom.
In the field of rural electrification in the governorate, projects were implemented to deliver electricity from the electrical networks to sites at the expense of the countryside in Karak, from 1999 to 2023, and electricity was delivered to 2,346 sites to serve 5,954 homes, at a financial cost of 13.2 million Jordanian dinars. Implementing projects to install grid-connected solar cell systems for the homes of beneficiaries of the National Aid Fund, for 1,000 homes, and replacing 30,832 traditional lighting units with energy-saving LED units from 2019 until now, as part of the project to replace traditional lighting units with energy-saving LED units.
The Ministry is carrying out several projects in Karak Governorate that are still under implementation, which are projects to deliver electricity from the electrical networks to sites at the expense of the countryside. Since the beginning of the current year 2024 until now, electricity has been delivered to 85 sites to serve approximately 176 homes at a financial cost of 1.28 One million Jordanian dinars, and work is also underway to implement projects to install solar cell systems connected to the network for the homes of wounded soldiers, as 100 homes have been implemented, and projects to replace traditional lighting units with energy-saving LED units, and 7,981 units have been replaced, and are awaiting approval to increase quantities.
Regarding the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency in Karak, many projects have been implemented, such as a project to support the installation of solar heater systems in homes for 3,054 homes, a project to support the installation of solar cell systems in homes for 318 homes, and a project to support the replacement of LED lighting units in Homes for 17,676 lighting units.
An energy efficiency, heating and cooling program project for 20 schools was also implemented, a project for applying energy efficiency and renewable energy to two health centres, a project for installing solar cells for 30 places of worship, a project for applying energy efficiency and renewable energy for 3 municipalities, and a project for installing solar cells for institutions of public benefit to the Foundation. One, and 5 farms belonging to small farmers in cooperation with the Agricultural Credit Corporation.
In the field of natural resources, work is still underway to provide geophysical studies services to the public and private sectors, and studies have been conducted for the Judoor project in Karak Governorate.
In the field of geological survey, a geological map on a scale of 1:50,000 and a detailed geological report were prepared for the entire governorate, which contributed to supporting the national economy through mineral exploration and prospecting, by documenting and circulating geological information, which contributes to the promotion of mining industries, and contributes to sustainable development projects and infrastructure planning. Infrastructure and providing accurate and documented consultations and information in relevant fields to the public and private sectors, as geological maps are considered a basic information base in oil exploration work.
