Jordan picks Russian company to build first nuclear reactor
Amman, Oct 28 (Petra) -- Jordan on Monday selected a Russian company as a preferred bidder to build the country's first nuclear reactor which is hoped to deliver 12 percent of the Kingdom's needs of energy by 2020.

PM visits Ministry of Energy
Amman, June 27(Petra)-- Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Thursday visited the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and discussed challenges facing the energy sector in the kingdom.
Ensour was briefed on the ministry's plans and projects, especially in uranium, oil shale and gas spheres.
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Malek Kabariti said Jordan imports 97% of its energy needs, noting the ministry's plans to address energy challenges.
He added that Jordan's energy bill stood at JD4.6 billion in 2012, and is expected to rise to JD5 billion this year.
The minister said the Egyptian gas contribution to producing electric power in Jordan declined from 86.5% in 2009 to 14.2 in 2012. The meeting also dealt with the Basra-Aqaba oil pipe line and its strategic importance for the Jordanian economy. Ensour underlined the need to speed up the implementation of renewable energy projects so as to reduce the burden of the country's energy bill.
